Tom has designed sets and costumes throughout the world in theatre, opera, television and film. Recent projects include: Messiah (ENO), Mother Courage (Royal National Theatre), Death in Venice (La Monnaie, ENO) and Happy Days (RNT, World Tour, BAM) all directed by Deborah Warner, All My Sons (Broadway, Henry Hewes Design Award nominated) and Measure for Measure (RNT, world tour for Complicité) both directed by Simon McBurney; Riders to the Sea (ENO) directed by Fiona Shaw, Top Girls (Manhattan Theatre Club, nominated for Henry Hewes Design Award) and Fewer Emergencies (Royal Court ) directed by James Macdonald; Major Barbara (Royal National Theatre) directed by Nicholas Hytner; Cyrano de Bergerac (Broadway), Sinatra (West End), Fiddler on the Roof (Broadway, nominated for Tony and Drama Desk awards) and The Glass Menagerie (Broadway) all directed by David Leveaux; Il Tabarro (Opera north & Lyon) directed by David Pountney; Cosi fan Tutte, Les Noces de Figaro and Don Giovanni (Lyon) all directed by Adrian Noble, and Orfeo (ENO) directed by Chen Shi-Zheng.
Other credits include Don Giovanni directed by Peter Brook (Aix Festival, world tour) and costumes for The Magic Flute (Opera North), directed by Tim Supple. Other work with Deborah Warner includes Julius Caesar (Barbican, Paris, Madrid) The Rape of Lucretia (Munich), The Powerbook (RNT, Paris, Rome), The Turn of the Screw (ROH) The Diary of One Who Vanished (ENO/RNT) Medea (Dublin, West End, Broadway, Paris, US tour), St John Passion (ENO), La voix humaine (Opera North) The Angel and Tower Projects (installations staged in New York, London and Perth, Australia) and art direction for Richard II (film for TV).
Television credits include the Emmy Award-winning Gloriana, Twelfth Night (Channel 4), Just William and The Late Michael Clark (BBC). Film credits include A Feast at Midnight and Christie Malry’s Own Double Entry.
Upcoming projects include Elegy for Young Lovers directed by Fiona Shaw (ENO) and Juliet and Her Romeo directed by Tom Morris (Bristol Old Vic).
